About Me
My name is Carol McCrow and I’m a 48 year old daughter, mother and grandmother. My mom has been a stroke x 2 victim for almost eight years and requires assisted living, so she moved in with me and I took classes so I could be her caregiver in my home. That was two years ago. I love having my mom with me and I thoroughly enjoy taking care of her.
But I am compelled to mention here and now that I would be taking care of my mom in the same way I am now whether I was being her paid caregiver (as I am) or not. EXCEPT: The required training classes I took to satisfy the requirements to be a certified Independent Provider/Caregiver to care for my mom taught me many valuable facts that would assist me greatly with my mom’s particular needs and requirements! I think its great! I feel very grateful for those types of laws and requirements protecting our loved ones and all the elderly requiring assisted living and with very few resources. What if there were no more relatives or friends for her to live with? I know there are many still clWell, now I know first-hand a little about how the system works and they do a great job with their limited resourced
After getting to know her caseworker at our home visits, I am very pleased to know there are other caseworkers like him with Washington State’s Programs For The Elderly (COPES program through DSHS) and how their rules have tightened on their periodic assessments/inspections to make sure the client is getting their needs fulfilled, such as medical/dental appointments, medication-monitoring & picking up refills, and whatever the client’s particular needs are within their monthly allotted time established- for my mom in particular
It is next to impossible to seek additional employment with our living situation because I need to be with her pretty much 24/7, or have someone fill in for me if I must get away.
I am compelled to mention here and now that I would be taking care of my mom in the same way I am now whether I was being her paid caregiver as I am,
I soon realized I’d have to find a way to supplement my income and it would have to be something I could do at home around my mom’s needs. I had just picked up a refurbished Dell desktop so once I was able to get satellite internet installed, I searched and researched until I found a few e-books I wanted to work with.
All three of them deal with the same basic ideas– working online, being your own boss, working your own hours, and starting your own business. I chose three e-books on the same subject for a reason- variety of opinions of the same subject coming from very different personalities.
